Last week one of our sheltered schemes in Leicester celebrated the diversity of their community with a world food and fun day.
The residents of Church Court come from 16 different countries and the day gave everyone the chance to get to know their neighbours better and sample some of their cultural delights.
Drummers and dancers from India and Nigeria provided entertainment while everyone got to sample foods from India, Africa, Europe and the Middle East. There was also the chance to learn how to put on a sari or African headdress and have henna decorations painted on their hands.
Our community development officer, Eileen Neelands said: “It’s great for everyone to learn more about their neighbours and their different cultures. The residents were so delighted to see all 16 flags on display recognising their heritage. We’ve all had such a fun day getting involved and tasting all the yummy foods on offer.”
