Residents gathered to celebrate the opening of their newly built Community Hub at Saxon Fields, Skegness, where 168 new homes are being built for Waterloo Housing Group.
The Community Hub will provide a focal point for residents to meet and hold activities for children, and First College will be holding classes there too.
Local resident, Gill Ridlington, officially opened the Hub and said:
“The Hub will be a place where services can be provided, here, so close to the residents and at times to suit everyone. It’s a lovely feeling to see it open!”
Waterloo successfully gained funding from Central Government, the Greater Lincolnshire Local Economic Partnership (GLLEP) and East Lindsey District Council (ELDC) to help develop this £18m scheme – which is being built by local builder, Chestnut Homes.
Anthony Riley, Group Director of Waterloo Housing Group said:
“Today sees a landmark on the site with over 100 of the homes now occupied. Without the help of the GLLEP, the Homes and Communities Agency and ELDC we could not build on this scale nor open up such a facility for residents. It does show how successful a close partnership can be, in producing the new affordable homes recognised by all that are so urgently required in the County and across the Country.”
Cllr Edginton of East Lindsey District Council (ELDC) and David Dexter of the Greater Lincolnshire Local Enterprise Partnership (GLLEP) also spoke at the opening and echoed these points. They emphasised too how the economic activity created by this large contract was creating so many jobs and training opportunities for apprentices in the area.
