Acclaim Housing Group has merged with Waterloo Housing Group on 1 April 2016, creating a housing association with almost 26,000 homes across the Midlands.
The two Midlands-based housing associations began formal discussions in early 2015 and the respective Boards approved the merger last month, after all the consents needed were received.
Waterloo Housing Group owns and manages more than 20,000 social and affordable homes across the East and West Midlands and has five subsidiary organisations.
Acclaim Housing Group owns and manages almost 5,400 homes across Derbyshire and Leicestershire.
David Pickering, Chief Executive of Waterloo Housing Group, said: “Waterloo and Acclaim have a similar ethos and shared geography. The new partnership will deliver a number of benefits, including delivering more new homes across the Midlands, improving the range and quality of services to customers and increasing the overall financial strength and efficiency of the Group and our ability to respond positively to the challenging external environment.”
Janet Ford, Chair of Acclaim Housing Group’s Board, said: “The partnership will increase our development programme to help meet the rising demand for affordable housing and improve and extend services for our customers. It will also increase the Group’s strategic influence and opportunities for our staff, and deliver significant financial benefits, which will help us to withstand some of the pressures currently facing housing associations.”
Dave Pickering will continue to lead Waterloo Housing Group, and Gerald Taylor, Acclaim Housing Group’s Chief Executive, has retired after working in the housing sector for 41 years.
