Congratulations go to our tenants at de Montfort House, an inner city tower block of over 230 flats in Leicester, who have scooped a housing award for excellence in digital engagement for their residents’ Digi-Lounge.
They are now through to the national finals in July for the TPAS awards, which showcase the inspirational stories of success of tenants and landlords working together.
A year ago, a group of de Montfort House tenants decided to bring their idea of a Digi-Lounge to life by working with Waterloo staff to transform an underused communal lounge into a thriving internet lounge for residents.
Open from 6am until midnight, the Digi-Lounge has succeeded in its aims of providing computer access so tenants can apply for jobs, complete CVs and keep in touch with friends and family living far away. It has also created a strong sense of community within the tower block.
Mo is one of the residents who attended the regional awards presentation in London. “This has been the best day of my life,” he said. “I feel so proud, and fired up with enthusiasm to carry on with developing the Digi-Lounge and other projects at de Montfort House.”
