SCHEME WITH RESIDENTIAL SCHEME MANAGERS What is the role of a scheme manager?
The scheme manager does not provide 'care' for residents or carry out tasks such as cleaning, shopping, or helping with medication. But they are there to help in the event of a problem and give advise on a range of issues such as the health services and welfare benefits available to residents to support independent living. The scheme manager will, for example, help a resident to apply for services such as meals on wheels or bathing assistance from social services. They will also help with tasks like completing forms to apply for benfit entitlements or calling Waterloo to request services such as repairs or improvements. The scheme manager is based at the scheme from Monday to Friday from 8.30am to 5.00pm (4.30pm on Friday). They encourage a sense of community at the scheme by arranging social activities and helping residents to make use of the scheme's facilities. How does the emergency alarm system work? The Scheme Manager is likely to live on site. They help newcomers settle into their surroundings, explain how everything works, and maintain regular contact with residents.Although they don't provide personal services (such as cleaning, washing, shopping or helping with medication), they are there to help in the event of any problem and can help you access services to help you live independently. |

How does the emergency alarm system work? Each flat has ana alarm which connects to the scheme manager. When the scheme manager is not on duty, the alarm connects to an operator at central control. This provides residents and their families with the reassurance that help is at hand 24 hours a day. Like the scheme manager, central control has the details of residents and their families to assist in an emergency. A translation link is available for emergency calls from any residents whose first language is not English. What charges are there? As well as rent, residents in sheltered housing pay a service charge (to contribute towards the upkeep and cleaning of communal areas, for example) and a support services charge that includes the scheme manager and emergency alarm services. How do I apply? Flats in Waterloo's sheltered housing schemes are available to people aged 60 and over. No limit is placed on the amount of savings or other income you have. If you are currently a tenant of a local authority or housing association, you must be nominated to Waterloo by your landlord. Schemes sometimes have flats available but there is usually a waiting list ranging from a few months to a few years. When this happens, we take account of factors such as an applicants' health, date of application and the suitability of their present home when allocating properties. Applicants are advised on the expected waiting time. To find out more about applying please call our lettings team on 0121 355 4501/ 4651 or email info@waterloo.org.uk |
