Before applying for housing with Waterloo, you should follow our checklist:
  • Know which Waterloo scheme(s) you want to apply for. Click here to see where we have housing.
  • Our waiting lists are at least a year long. Think about how soon you need to move
  • Find out if you are eligible to register with Waterloo for housing by reading our advice page
  • Apply to as many associations and councils as you can

Eligibility

If you are a local authority tenant and want to be housed by Waterloo you would have to be nominated to us by your landlord. We will not register you for housing through our waiting list, however you could register with us for a mutual exchange. There are other circumstances which may mean we refuse your application and we will ask about these during your telephone registration.

How to apply

When a waiting list is open for your choice of area, size and property type please contact us to make an appointment for a telephone registration. We will give you the next appointment slot we have available, although we may not always be able to register you on the same week.

On the day you register we will interview you for approximately ten minutes. It would be useful if you have to hand details of your previous addresses over the last ten years. We will need to know about any previous rent arrears or anti-social behaviour and any criminal history. Having a pet at home or being related to someone working for Waterloo may also restrict your chances of joining the waiting list. All being well, at the end of the interview we will confirm that you have joined the list. You will receive a letter within seven days to confirm which band your application is in.

If you miss your appointment it will be possible to have it rearranged as long as the waiting list you wanted to join is still open.

You may appeal against any decision we have made relating to applications, either accepted or refused, in writing to our Housing Manager Lucy Hales for Birmingham areas, or Area Office Manager Marion Duffy for Stafford areas.
