CONTENTS INSURANCE

Photo shows woman in her loungeWaterloo's deal with a leading finance company means that tenants can now enjoy affordable home contents insurance.

As many as one in three people in the UK don't have any form of home insurance currently in place, leaving them at great risk of losing everything in the event of a fire, theft or flood

A deal between Waterloo and Crystal Insurance seeks to solve this problem by offering affordable and easy to understand polices to all.

Housing Manager Lucy Hales, explained: "Many tenants wrongly presume that their landlord insures their contents for them. Others simply decide that they can't afford the high premiums insurance companies charge for their postcode area. Now, with this new package, there's really no excuse! Affordable cover is available to all."

The new policy sees the insurance company treat all Waterloo's homes as if they are in the same, relatively low risk postcode area. This means tenants living in areas where premiums are traditionally higher can buy insurance at a far lower price than usual.

Another feature of the new package is that tenants are able to pay for their cover in monthly installments at the Post Office , without any extra charge. Usually, insurance paid monthly costs significantly more after 12 months than insurance paid for up front.

The Crystal Insurance package automatically increases the amount insured during the Christmas holiday period by 10%.

Tony Taylor, Waterloo Chief Executive said: "We don't mind where tenants get their insurance, just so long as they have some. Waterloo's own insurance only covers the building itself. Anyone unsure of their responsibilities can double check by reading their tenants handbook."
